What are Vignette Questions?

Vignettes

The ABPN Psychiatry Certification Exam has two types of questions: stand-alone and vignette. Vignette questions are typically made up of 2-10 multiple-choice questions linked to a common case that may be presented in a video clip, varying in length from one to four minutes, an audio clip, or in a text vignette.

Multiple Answers

Some vignette questions will require more than one answer. Partial credit will not be given for vignette questions. This makes the section much more difficult and is often where test-takers lose the points they need to pass. Getting used to this format is really the key to passing.

Flagging

Vignette questions must be answered completely before moving on to the next question, therefore candidates will not be able to flag vignette questions for review.

It is recommended that candidates familiarize themselves with the examination functions by reviewing Sample Video Vignettes provided by the ABPN.

How many Vignette questions are on the Psychiatry Certification Exam?

Up to 250 questions out of the 425 questions are vignette style questions.
